chapter 1 — who I am
I have been making things since I was a little girl.
My grandmother inspired me not by what she made, but by the way she lived — giving handmade, personalized gifts to everyone she loved. She had a knit shop, and though I was too young to see it, I knew the story. When she got sick with brain cancer, I taught myself to knit so I could make her a blanket. It was my way of connecting with her the way I had watched her connect with people her whole life — by making something by hand and giving it to someone you love.
That impulse never left me.
chapter 2 – the beginning
In my first job out of college — which I hated — my husband bought me a loom. A way back to the making of my childhood.
I fell in love with weaving. I started giving my weavings to friends and family, following my grandmother's example. In 2017 I launched on Etsy, and to my surprise, people started shopping. I wove before and after work, fulfilling orders from our apartment.
Those first pieces were thick, textured and completely handmade by me — a different weave than what you see today, but the same heart. People still ask about them.
chapter 3 – the sign
Years later, on a trip to Scotland, I saw weaving everywhere — in the tartan and wool mills — the whole country was obsessed with weaving, just like me! It felt like a sign I couldn't ignore. I came home and followed my dream.
chapter 4 — our makers: houston
Then something remarkable happened. I met a group of refugee women living in Houston — traditional weavers from the Karenni State. They began weaving for me and brought so much meaning to what we were making. I also connected with a group of adult artisans with autism who wove for kd weave too.
It really felt like the business had a heart. It was more than pretty things — it was a way to help people through making.
chapter 5 — our makers: india
As we grew, I connected with the partners we work with now in India. They handle our entire process — sourcing organic cotton, spinning, dyeing, weaving, sewing and finishing. Every thread intentional. Every piece handmade.
kd weave has taken on many forms, but our heart for people has always remained at the center.
chapter 6 — our founder
I am a wife, mother of three, Christian, home chef, gardener and crafter. We moved our family from Houston to Birmingham to be closer to family, to slow down, and to build a life with more intention. That move — toward home, toward simplicity, toward what matters — is exactly what kd weave is about.
chapter 7 — our materials
We use 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and AZO free dyes in everything we make. Pre-shrunk, machine washable and designed to get better with every wash. No synthetics. No shortcuts. Just cotton — honest, natural and made to last.
chapter 8 — our home
kd weave lives in Birmingham, Alabama now. A city with deep roots, a growing creative community and a pace of life that suits us. Our goods are designed here, fulfilled here and inspired by the kind of home we are trying to build — warm, beautiful, lived in and full of people we love.
chapter 9 — our community
You are the most important part of this story. The customers who come back, the designers who specify our goods, the friends who give kd weave as gifts — you are why this exists. We love hearing how our pieces live in your homes.
chapter 10 — our values
We believe in quality over quantity. Maker over mass production. Beauty in the everyday. A kd weave piece is not a throwaway purchase — it is an investment in your home, in a woman artisan's livelihood, and in a way of living that values craft and intentionality above convenience.
chapter 11 — where we are heading
Almost ten years in, kd weave is becoming the business we always dreamed it could be.
We are expanding our lampshade line, deepening our relationships with our India partners, launching a designer trade program and building a community of women who believe in beautiful, intentional homes. We have moved to Birmingham, Alabama — back home, closer to family, living the slower and more intentional life that kd weave has always stood for.
The next chapter is the best one yet. We are so glad you are here for it.
